Organize Your Closet, Organize Your Life
I am feeling Powerful! And tired and sore (I did not take my 30x Arnica after Yoga yesturday - AUGH!). I am hiking on tuesdays and Yogaing on Thursdays. I would love to get up to hiking daily - it makes me feel GRRREAT! Alas - I treasure my sleep too much to make the transition to early morning hikes. Maybe as the weather gets hotter and I get more motivated...
Pre-Mother's Day, I went away for 2 days with two girlfriends. Sans fils (no kids) and no man -
- for someone had to stay with the little munchkins. It was my mother's day event. We went up to malibu to a friend's house. The house had recently been bought (1 week prior) and was furnished well and minimally (all the boxes of stuff were in the garage). I enjoyed two uninterrupted nights of sleep in fabulous digs and I came back with energy, renewed; AND an action plan of attack on the clutter in my home.
But where to start? How to succeed this time?
I have tried this on numerous occasions - Sincere Attempts at Order. These attempts are thwarted by disorderly habits by All members of the household. Inevitably order/cleanliness is replaced by clothes draped on diningroom chairs (Dedi has infected me with this bad habit after 13 years together!), toys strewn around the living, bath, and dining rooms, dishes and laundry piled in their respective areas.
My hiking partner, Jenny, is married to an order freak (I mean this with utmost respect) and while she is the slob of the two, she knows how to organize! After the hike, we spent the morning on our bedroom closet. I must say, after several hours of fervour (sp?) the closet stands as a beacon. The closet perfect. The clothes are hung all in the same direction, in categories!!!! (Jenny emphasizes that categories are KEY!). Discarded clothes have been given to friends and Out-Of-The-Closet. What remains would put Banana Republic to shame. That's right - the beauty of that which is The Closet, has inspired me to tackle other projects. First chalked off the list - the Dresser. I used another friend's technique (Give away 1/2 of everything) to declutter and organize (in categories - Jenny) the under clothing, socks, etc.
I now see the light. I see the possibility of my whole house looking like - THE CLOSET.
Files and paper organized, Kitchen, Bathroom, Closets - ORDERITIS WILL INFECT MY HOME!!!!!
Feng Shui takes clutter seriously. De-clutter your home and you de-clutter your life. I am feeling the vibe and while the rest of the house is somehow oppressive due to its lack of order and excess stuff - I turn my gaze to THE CLOSET, and know that it is only a matter of time before my eyes will be able to wander and all views will give me the thrill of... you guessed it! THE CLOSET!

I agree completely. I am so much more productive, calmer, and happier when my space is clear of clutter!

A clean house is such a lovely thing... And I hate/love it how it doesn't take that long to get it clean if you clean it every day, but so many nights I think, oh, its not that bad...And before you know it??? clutter has taken over!

I haven't proceeded much further than the closet. but it stands as a symbol of possibility for the future of the rest of the house. It takes alot of effort and energy to maintain order though!!!
