Watch what you put out to the Universe!
Okay - so the day after my rant on sickness and wellness and...Lishai comes home with a tummy ache that started after lunch as school. First thing I do is check her (muscle testing) for the cheese (I cut off some sketchy portions of the sheep gouda before making her sandwich). Negative. I start with my Doctor Mommy interrogation:
"What hurts?" tummy. "Anything else? Head? Throat?" no. "Is your nose stuffy are you sneezing?" no. "Are you achy? chilly? hot?" no. yes. maybe. I don't know.
Lishai's lays down on the sofa - "I just feel sick. and my tummy hurts."
I do BRT (body restoration technique - which involves tapping down the sides of her spine as she holds her tummy and she breathes - inhales, exhales, and pants - some of my patients call this good voodoo). Her tummy feels better. "But now I just feel sick." Lishai reclines on the sofa under the blanket. Eyes glassy - she is running a fever.
So now the big question: Do I run to the fever reducer? Yes? No? Why?
Here is my take on fevers:
I like them! I admire, honor, appreciate fevers! I am amazed at our body's natural defense response (Man the guns! The buggers got in! We're gonna toast 'em!) Why would I give myself or my child something to turn that response off? It makes no sense! I feel that you are just weakening a system that works! Prime example: you hit the fever-reducer Rx. and 4-6 hours later, the fever rebounds. Duh! The body is trying to kick some butt on the battlefield and you are working against your own team? Sorry to mix metaphors...
So what do I do? (Disclosure - I am sharing what I do - use your internal voice, consult your practitioner/etc. for whatever you or your kids are dealing with),
1. 5pm oscillo (she loves this stuff),
2. lots of mommy hugs and watch Ruff Ruffman on PBS with her. Let her watch Project Runway (big treat).
3. Monitor the fever (bse my cut off for kids is 102.7, about 102 rapid onset and "floppy child" I am doing Belladonna (homeopathic) or Tempease (herbal tincture). Even I think 103 is too high (101.5-102 for adults). Kids run high in general.
4. Keep her HYDRATED! I give her 1oz portions of Go Chi juice (I'll tell you more about this Goji thing next time!)
5. 9pm (2nd dosage). She goes to sleep.
Next day - Acumomma's firstborn wakes up right as rain. No tummy ache, no fever. Happy and bright.
Big question: Do I send her to school (and get all the stuff I need to do today done?) or do I keep her home for the day?
Well, since you brought it up - let's talk about BELOW FEVER. What is this you ask? Western MD - will tell you this is ridiculous and poo-poo it. So I will begin by saying, this is the way my mother (and health guru) raised me and how we do it in our household (even if it screws up the work schedules of the adults in the house). You need to know what your normal, daily temp is. We all run at 98.7. So if one has 97.4 after a sickness/fever. That means the body is running 1.3 degrees below normal. Why is it doing that? The body hasn't recuperated yet. It does not have the ability to get to its healthy happy self. So why would I send that body out in the big big world where viruses and bacteria are circulating (as they always do)? It isn't ready to get back in the ring! You are just asking to pick up another "houseguest."
In our household - we look at 1.3 below the same as 1.3 above - and treat accordingly So- Yes - Lishai stayed home from school. Drove me crazy, but I wouldn't have it anyother way.

might antidote your homeopathics with herbals.

For those who don't know, "antidote" in this comment, means that the herbals might neutralize the effects of the homeopathics. This lady knows her stuff! With my kids I usually try the homeopathics first. Reason: they love the taste (the chinese herbs will never be able to compete with the sugary sweetness of the homeopathic remedies - which they call num-nums). If I am not getting the results I am looking for - I will go to my body of chinese herbology. I am not a homeopath so I have my kid's homeopathic kit (got from whole foods for $29) That has arnica, belladona, chamomilla, and 3 others for the typical kid illness symptoms: fever, teething, bruising, cough, runny nose, etc.) Thus far, the most effective for our family has been the chamomilla for teething, the belladona when it is a high fever with rapid onset, and arnica (internally and the oinment externally) for bruising. And of course, oscillo which is not in the kit. The others - cough, runny nose, cold etc. I find my chinese herbs more effective.
My cousin is a homeopath, so any info I have is from her. From my understanding antidotes to homeopathics (aka stuff that neutralizes their effects) are coffee, chocolate, caffeine, raw garlic/onions, cinnamon, mint (so most toothpastes). Mostly items that have a pungent flavor or taste can neutralize any actions of homeopathics.
I don't believe the herbs I use antidote the homeopathics necessarily. It depends what is in the formula. They are not given in the same hour and if they do, well the reason I turned to them was the homeopathics were not working for me to begin with.

So here I am- I've been sick from about January 15th- finally went on antibiotics for 10 days for a sinus infection on the 18th of Feb- And now I'm getting sick again. I ordered the oscillo- but its still a couple of days away from me, Boise ID is the backwater of the world it feels like.
I hurt all over and I don't know what I'm doing wrong! Do you have a sister in Boise I can go see?

If the head still hurts and the nose is congested. I would use a nettipot with xylitol. Nettipot is a little teapot looking contraption that helps to irrigate the sinuses. The xylitol you can get - it comes like a sugar substitute (it is a natural sweetener from tree sugar alcohol!) - you may have seen it in gum as an anti-cavity agent. In anycase - using it instead of salt in the water of your nettipot will kill off any viruses, bacteria, fungus lurking in your sinuses.
A homemade remedy that works great: the whites of the scallion/green onion, ginger, and garlic - chopped up, boil for 5 minutes. Then drink it and get under the blankets and sleep - it will produce a sweat to help kick out any lingering pathogen.
to find a local practioner www.acufinder.com has listings of acupuncturists.
-hope that helps!

OK, so I think the xylitol works, but Yaelle-y, it HURTS!!! The burning makes me literally cry. I did it for 2 days, but lost my bravado and stopped. I need to start again, but must first find the cohones to do so.
