What to do, when the Zen leaves you...

What to do? What to do? When the Zen in your life just up and leaves you? You know the symptoms - worry, anxiety, repeating thoughts - 3 a.m.  "Are we going to need a minivan with #3 on the way?" "Is there an affordable hybrid/fuel efficient model?" "Why am I thinking about this at 3 a.m.?" "We are going to be out-numbered!"
My solution - not ambien, not valerian - even if I wanted it, I am pregnant and refraining from taking anything unnecessary. so...
BREATHE - Inhale 1,2,3, hold 1,2,3, exhale 1,2,3. Repeat 9 times.
Instant Zen. Thoughts now shift to - I am light. I am energy. I am blessed.
Gratitude practice - I am grateful for: my husband/partner, my amazing girls, roof over our head, clothes on our back, food in the fridge, patients/clients/business, health, peace. etc.
Result - I am asleep.
Wake up 4:30am with Ellah - explain to a 17 month old that "IT IS STILL NIGHTTIME!" She asks for a bottle. Give the girl the bottle. She slurps and dozes until 5:15am and then like clockwork she sits up points to the livingroom and is ready to start her day. And I think to myself - this kid was a farmer in a past life. Too bad we don't have cows to milk...

Alternative Tip of the Week:   LICE Infestation! Hypothetically - if your child brings home lice from a playdate or school, here is a very real way of treating it at home (we dealt with this last week). Wyndmere's Lice Begone Essential oil blend (got it at Whole Foods). Mix 30 drops with shampoo, conditioner. and/or 1 oz of oliver oil. Scrub into scalp and hair leave on overnight or a few hours. Use RID comb from the local pharmacy (we got ours at CVS). Comb out all buggers, eggs, and nits (hatched eggs). Use the essential oil blend in a spray bottle with water and spray everything! Vacuum, quarrentine stuffed animals (ours disappeared for 4 days - the lice will die as they need the scalp to survive more than 24-48 hours), launder all bedding.  Repeat after 4 days to break the lice life cycle. The babies are microscopic and you won't see them with the naked eye. Use the oil in the the hair as a natural repellent. We found this to be very effective. Of course if you have the budget - call www.hairfairies.com!
